I am primarily a family and senior photographer. But every once and awhile, I get that call that from a bride or wife who wants to do something a little special for their man. Maybe they've just lost a ton of weight or they are getting ready to get married but they want to give their man something 'special.' Well, I got one of those calls a couple of weeks ago. She just didn't want to buy him some ordinary golf club or wrist watch as her wedding gift to him. She wanted something he would remember for a LONG TIME! Well I have to say, I think we achieved that with this session! She is ordering him a leather 8x8 coffee table book with a special inscription. (Ask about these if you are interested in one for your session.) I absolutely love doing these so give me a call if you want to your own bodacious beauty session!

Busy Busy Bee-Evansville Indiana Engagement Pictures

I have been neglecting my blog again. SO what else is new? But I do have a good excuse. :) This has been the craziest week for me. I've been doing Vacation Bible School all week in the a.m. as a lead teacher and I have count em, 4 shoots this week. I have another engagement session tonight so here is the one from earlier this week. This couple are old friends of mine from high school who have just found each other again and are getting married in Novemeber. We had planned on driving and shooting at the beach but as we were driving that way we ran into rain as we got south and it ended up being too muddy to continue. Bummer! But I think these came out beautifully. The light was perfect along the riverfront.

Well some of you requested what you would like to hear me blog about and since I didn't get very many comments, I'm gonna do them all. (I know you are out there, my counter says there are 50 of you a day! LOL! Don't be afraid to comment people!)

Here goes....

1. What inspires you? Well, I think the question is, what doesn't inspire me. I get it just by looking around and using my eyes. Life gives me inspiration. I see beauty in everyday things. Just seeing kids playing or doing what they do, helps me pose them. I got inspiration for my web design from a wine bottle. It's all in my environment and let me tell you, I am constantly thinking about things.

2. Where would be your ideal place to hold a photo session? Hmm, this is a hard one. It's hard to say exactly where cause I don't know of all the places out there. I mean the possibilities are endless. I can tell you my favorite shots are the ones of little girls with wispy curls in sundresses twirling around in a field of wildflowers. And of course this is all in my mind. LOL I haven't found the perfect field yet. Let me know if you see one. LOL

3. How did you find photography? I took a whole year of photography in high school complete with a darkroom and black and white film. I loved the smell of developer and the feel of the camera in my hands. I took pictures of all my friends. Then I took some classes in college here and there. Then right after my oldest child was born, I decided to get back into it. I was shooting her all the time and friends and family saw my work and wanted me to do their kids. Well it snowballed from there
and here I am. :)

4. What famous person, dead or alive, would you like to photograph and where? You know I thought about this, started thinking about people in history like Marilyn Monroe, Jesus, my grandparents....who would I enjoy PHOTOGRAPHING tho....I mean Marilyn would be modelish, Jesus I would just really want to talk to and my grandparents I would just like to see again......so who....then it occurred to me...
Dwayne Johnson AKA The Rock! And it would be in Tahiti in one of these huts......

He would wear white linen pants and I would probably have him sit up.......Oh wait what was the question again.... =)

Anyways, what's a post without a picture?? Here is one the latest families I did. They were SO MUCH FUN!!!

Two posts in one day? Aren't you proud of me?? :)This was a fun family! They had lots of spunk and a desire for something funky and new. The mom is a photographer friend from Morganfield, KY and desperately needed some pictures of her own family. We photographers get so caught up in our day to day sessions that we almost forget to do our own. And most of the time if you ask any photographer, they will tell you they HATE doing their own kids pictures. I mean, yes, I take lots of pictures of my own kiddos but when it comes to a portrait for say a birthday, it's like pulling teeth to get them to cooperate. They know all my tricks. So most of the time I hire out that job to someone else. So here is a little peak from their session.

Yes I confess, I am a horrible blogger. : ( I promised some pictures from the renewal ceremony last week and here it is Thursday of the next week. Well I am laid up in bed currently for a whole week due to a minor surgery that causes me to be really dizzy anytime my head is up. So I will have plenty of time to blog about whatever I wish. I've had a few sessions that I still need to post so you will be seeing those soon. As promised here is a few from the ceremony. And if I happen to sound a little silly and spacey at times, it's all the pain meds I am on.

Last week, I pulled up to pick up my daughter from school. I looked down out the window to see one very tiny baby duckling waddle out from under a car. No one followed. No brothers or sisters, no mother or father. He was all by himself. I stepped out of my car to see if I could help this helpless little duck. What gathered to be a crowd of eight, all laid down on the ground of the parking lot to corral this duckling out of danger. It was gonna get hit, I just knew it. But finally after some coaxing, the little guy was caught and safely put in the back of a mother's van. When I saw this next story from ABC news I thought of my little duck. I wonder how he is. Where he is. If he's thriving. There really is good still left in this world. :)

A VERY special family-Evansville Indiana Family Photographer

This family is very near and dear to my heart. The mom of the family runs a daycare and used to watch little miss K for me when I had my office job. She was the BEST caretaker, daycare provider ANYONE could ask for. I mean if my kid got ketchup on her shirt, it was in the wash and back on my child before I could even see that something had happened. Now that is some service. I LOVE her! Well her and her hubby are renewing their vows on Saturday (stay tuned for those pictures as well) and they wanted some pretty pictures of the fam sitting out for the ceremony. They are such an inspiration and I can only hope my marriage and family turns out as good as theirs.

Now this little girl (she's 8) has a very rare brain tumor and is still having to go thru radition and chemotherapy. It's such a sad situation and please say some prayers for her. She has kept such a positive attitude thru it all. We love you little Miss S!

This shoot was a blast. Miss E was fun, beautiful and her property was a photographer's dream. She was up for anything including laying in a field of weeds, which I think left me with a blood sucking scary tick on my stomach. Now that is some tramatic stuff. Never found one on me before at least since I have been an adult. My mom says that I had them on me as a kid but thank God I don't remember. Eww, it was gross! Oh trying to get back into the swing of things is rough. I had sooo much fun with my nephew and sister this past week. I was so happy to be able to get some baby time and then also be able to send him home for the night. He was so squishy, sweet, and squeaky. We literally did a week long shoot too. I'm a new Auntie! My dear sister who lives in California had her first baby yesterday! I am one proud sister and aunt! Little Max Hayden was born yesterday at 7:28a.m. CA time, was 8lbs and 21 inches long with a ton of black hair! I am flying out next week to visit and do a week long newborn shoot! So excited!

9 whole years

It's been 9 years today since Jerred and I said the "I do's" and I love him even more today then I ever thought I could. He has taught me so much about unconditional love and how to be a better me. We still have so much fun together just being together. He can still read my mind and I can always tell he's mad when he chews on the side of his mouth. He knows when he needs to leave me alone and when I need some TLC. He knows how to be my best friend and when to be my husband. He really is a good man. Thanks for a wonderful and crazy 9 years. I love you BABE!

This was written by a fellow photographer and friend. So well written and straight out of my thoughts. I think we all must remember how important life is and how quickly it happens. Just another reason why I love my job.

"My 9-hour drives to PA are made a lot more enjoyable by my satellite radio. Last week as I was driving home I was channel surfing and came across a talk show where they were discussing how to avoid the high cost of professional photography for a wedding. Basically the dilemma was how to get high quality, artistic, out-of-the-box different, reliable service…without actually paying much for it. Callers talked about their experiences using a friend, an art or photography student, a hobbyist, or someone who does it on the side without a registered (ie, tax paying) business. Several said they were thrilled with their choices, and some said they were sorely disappointed.

Let me say that I am in a fairly contemplative mood nowadays, as I just had another birthday and we are preparing to move into our dream home in just over a week. But I feel like I just have to share my thoughts on this topic, as it is a question that I myself struggled with as a young mom – why custom photography?

I have always loved photography, even more so when I had children and wanted to capture my wonder at their beauty and their personalities. I knew I didn’t want to forget any of it. I spent so much time trying to breathe in the moments, burn what they were like into my memory forever. I seriously did not believe that I would ever forget the way they looked, sounded, smelled, laughed. I almost didn’t even bother labeling the backs of photographs with dates and ages – I knew that I would instantly remember what age they were in those images, and where it was taken and why.

I was pretty good with a camera, and I was proud of a lot of the images I captured of their sweet faces and expressions and little outfits. I got lots of fun photojournalistic shots that I thought were very cool. I didn’t feel like I needed to spend money on custom photography when I took such great pictures, and besides, there were cute outfits to buy.

Well here it is, nearly thirty years later. The girls are grown, and I’m a nanna. I have been packing up old photo albums and scrapbooks for our move and have had some very sweet moments looking through them. But my underlying thought when I look at them is a feeling of a job not quite complete, and certainly not worthy of its goal of capturing my children completely and beautifully.

What I didn’t realize is that my “mommy goggles” colored the greatness of those pictures I took. At the time, my heart filled in the slight blur, the poor color, the over or underexposures. All I could see were my kids, like a mom views a child’s crayon drawing with pride because her darling produced it. And guess what? The memories do fade. I have to try to decipher an unmarked photo – sometimes I can’t even tell which baby it is!

I want to encourage all of you to take lots of photos, learn all you can about photography, document every happy moment. But I also want to share my experience with you in the hopes that you will not repeat my misguided mistakes. Especially in this economy it is important to cut back on unnecessary expenses, and certainly custom photography is a luxury. But I will tell you that it is one luxury that I wish I would have dedicated more resources to. I always managed to buy them cute clothes that are now so forgotten that it isn’t even funny. I took them to chain store studios to save money, but those images of them with giant bunnies for Easter are not something I would display in my home as art now. How I wish I would have supplemented my own pictures with professional ones!

Over the next few weeks I will be writing about all of the things that make custom photography worth it – and why it costs what it does. I don’t want to convince you just because I’m now a professional photographer (!). It’s because I want to make sure that you don’t have the same sense of loss that I do when the day comes that you have to pack up your own albums. And that day will come faster than you can believe possible."

Over the weekend, K was featured as one of the Young Authors at Central Library. Her teacher was so impressed with how well she is writing and how well she was coloring that she submitted it for the display. Each school had a booth set up and it was so neat to see all the different books. I am so proud how well she is doing with school. She really is smart if I don't say so myself! I am so excited to show you all these new cards! I've been doing a little design work on the side and really have started enjoying it. My sister is pregnant and I have made her shower invites, thank you cards and her birth announcements. It really has brought out the little designer in me. Encouraged by my big sis, I took some time and created these Engagement Announcements. These can also be used as 'Save The Date' cards to let people know about your wedding date. Little J and I went out on Friday for a little photoshoot. It was such a nice day and I had to run to Henderson to drop off some postcards. So I decided to take advantage of one of my favorite alleys and the fact that J is really walking good now. It was so funny! The second I set him down he grinned from ear to ear and looked up at me with "What's going on? Are you gonna let me run around? I've never done this before." So off he went, walking and walking and walking and running and running. I think these two were taken at the moment I set him down. I barely could keep him still long enough to focus and shoot. He was so cute. My little big man.

It's funny how we perceive beauty. I am currently taking a bible study class on the book of Esther. Now I haven't gotten thru the entire book yet but it seems very interesting to me that even back in the bible days, beauty was something that was taken so seriously. I mean really, beauty back then was used to choose Queens and women spent 6 months going thru beauty treatments just to spend a few minutes in front of the King. They were all herded thru the castle grounds as if they were cattle to see if any of them pleased the King. It seemed quite degrading to say the least. So where am I going with this? Well I wanted to share this video made by Dove. Now keep in mind, I am a complete fan of what Photoshop does but everyone also needs to know that how we perceive beauty may be completely distorted. ALL magazine spreads you see are retouched in some way. I used to look at Victoria's Secret catalogs and wonder why I could never look like that. Well the truth is, no one does. It's all done in the world of photoshop. Now that I understand the concept, I now look for what they may have retouched. That's a way more fun game if you ask me. Due to the weather conditions in Evansville, I will be unavailable to answer any emails or post on my blog. I am without power and water (I have well water) and am staying at my parent's house for now. I will check my email periodically but not as often as usual. It's hump day and time for a fun internet site or page. I actually have two for you but I suppose since one is about me it really shouldn't count. I also have a large amount of blogs that I follow and I keep track of them via Google Reader. It really is the coolest little thing that I have found in a long time! It allows you to 'subscribe' to a blog and then puts all of them in like a little makeshift inbox. Then when someone posts something new to their blog it shows that there is a new entry by putting a (1) by the listing. It really does simplify following a blog cause you don't have to go to each and every web page to see if there is a new entry. So awesome! Here is a screen shot of what it looks like since I'm thinking that you all have no idea how to picture this in your head.

I subscribe to 43 (yes you read that right) blogs and this is the streamline way to keep up with all of them. There is no way without it that I would be able to read them all. You do have to have a google account to set it up but I believe you can use your regular email address. Here is the link to try it out!

When is this cold weather gonna be done with Evansville? (I suppose if you look, Thursday looks pretty nice. LOL) I am ready for spring! All I want to do is camp out under a blanket all day and watch Oprah! Yes, I am a Pajama wearing fool during the day. I work from home and no one sees me so it makes it ok right? I used to love winter as a kid. Bundling up, hot chocolate and snow days. But yesterday I was out for a measley 20 minutes playing with the kids and was so ready to come in and hibernate. Thank God the shoot I have scheduled is for Thursday! = )

So unfortunately, the radio show never aired. I have checked about the podcast and they are supposed to be fixing it but I haven't seen it yet. I was told by the show's producer that it will air on Friday if you all want to try and listen at 12:30 again. I thank all of you that listened and have tried to listen! It's been a frustrating thing for me and I apologize if at any point I have wasted your time.

I'll be back tomorrow with web wednesday! And probably a picture of the kiddos from snowy yesterday.

Such an appropriate video right before V-day. Talk about love and loyalty. I love the message it gives. We could all learn something from these two. I got all teary eyed during this so have a tissue ready.

I think this is where our elephant "Bunny" went to when she left Mesker Park Zoo. (I don't remember exactly but I think so.)

I have had several inquires about weddings for May and June and those months are filling up very fast. If you have a wedding or a portrait session that you want in those two months, please call me soon so I can get you scheduled.

Valentine's Day would be an awesome reason to have some pictures taken for your honey! Boudoir shoots can happen descretly in your home where you feel your best. I still have some dates open before the big day, so if you are interested in boudoir pictures please let me know ASAP, so we can get your pictures back before the 14th.

I have been invited to be on WNIN's 88.3 FM Plugged In Show to talk about Digital Photography. The show is hosted by Justin Williams and discusses tech news and tips. It will be airing Friday at 12:30 p.m. and replays on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. You can also hear the podcast anytime at http://pluggedinshow.org

The first segement which will be airing this Friday, January 16th at 12:30 p.m. I'll be talking about Camera Buying Tips-what to look for and what's important. This will be one of 5 segements that I will be doing. I'm not sure when the other segements will be airing but I will for sure let everyone know when I know.

Here is the winning entry to the Christmas Cheer contest. I was so honored to meet this wife and their inspiring family.

I am nominating Lindsay and Nathan Schroer. They have been married for 8 years and Lindsay has always been there for Nathan. Nathan battled leukemia and Lindsay stood by his side every minute. You can tell how much they are in love. Lindsay and Nathan are not able to have kids because of the radiation treatment during his battle with Leukemia. They were looking into adopting a child, but do not have the money. Now they have resulted to looking into becoming foster parents in hopes of adopting a child that way. She is one of the good ones here at the office, as she comes to work every day and gives 100% without griping at the challenges our job brings us. Lindsay has a great personality. She is always there to listen to you when you need a friend and is always able to cheer you up with her smile. She is also good for a laugh anytime! She and her husband have recently started running together. Lindsay just completed her first 5K last weekend and Nathan was so proud of her. He cheered her on while running her pace at her side during the race. I am nominating this couple because Lindsay has been a good friend and the Schroer’s deserve a treat. They are truly and inspirational couple.

I received an update 2 weeks after the first entry and this is what it said.

Friday an miracle happened for them. They became the legal guardians of a week old baby boy who weighed only 4 lbs. 15 oz. This child has had a rough past and is too young to even know it. Lindsay and Nathan brought the baby home yesterday.

Congratulations Lindsey and Nathan! I can't wait to meet your new little boy!

As the holidays get closer, I have started to order some beautiful Christmas cards for some clients. It's been so exciting shooting all the families I have this year.

Just wanted to get on and wish everyone an awesome Thanksgiving and a exciting Black Friday (cause you know it is a holiday in itself as well!) I am so thankful for this past year. OHHHHHHH! I love these two! They were so much fun and they braved the cold with me. And it was cold....like 37 degrees cold! T is so beautiful and E has some gorgeous eyes! And can we talk about his eyelashes? Do you know women pay thousands of dollars to try and have those lashes??? And you got them with nature. HA! Speaking of nature and being in the heart of it at the beach, we ran into a hunter with a biggo shotgun. I was afraid for my life for a few seconds. There is something about being out in the middle of nowhere and coming up on someone alone with a shotgun. Um, yeah I find that a little scary. Either that or I have been watching too many Forensic Files.

I have added links on the right over there to some of the products I offer, so take the time to have a looksie at them. I know lots of clients are always asking what some of the products in my pricelist are and that will give you an idea of what it is I can design for you.
